I absolutely adore El Perro del Mar. She’s a musician from Sweden, and her songs are reminiscent of 60’s French pop, with a touch of melancholy. There’s something striking about her voice and the way she emotes her words. Sometimes there’s so much beauty in sadness.
Here’s the video for her very first single, “God Knows (You Gotta Give To Get)”. I love the simple illustrations; there’s something quite charming about them.
I remember watching those Smarties commercials as a kid, and their jingle asked the following question:
“When you eat your Smarties do you eat the red ones last?”
I opened a snack size box of Smarties and dumped the candies into my right palm. There were no red ones! (And for the record, I don’t blindly follow whatever those things tell me to do anyway.) I see chocolate and I gobble them all at once. Yum!
And for the record, here’s a bit of nostalgia. The commercial is still a lot of fun, and as a design nerd, I’ll say that it has a clever use of colour. Maybe that’s why I remember it many years later. Or maybe it’s the jingle. Oh childhood, where are you?
